Pastor's Notes

A Place of Trust

Upon receiving my marching orders to take this pastorate, both my wife and I were very excited.  Though we were beginning a new season in our life and not sure what to expect, we knew where God was involved we'd prevail.  Still yet, the transition wasn't easy.  We had only recently bought and remodeled a house and made it our home when all this took place.  Our home in Fairmont had become a safe refuge where we could retreat to feel safe and secure.  Regardless, things now were about to change and like Jesus, we felt we didn't have any place to lay our heads.

Have you ever felt unprotected, insecure or exposed?  When people walk according to their own understanding life becomes much more complicated.  Having to fend for yourself with no real safety net can be unnerving.  The Hebrew word makhesh, translated "refuge," means "a shelter," "a place of trust."  It's derived from the root meaning "to flee for protection," "to confide in."  The point is to make the Lord your refuge and habitation by trusting Him.  Psalms 91:9-10 declares, "Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor any plague come near your dwelling...".  Faithful focus on God guarantees peace of mind and spending time in His presence promises refreshment.  A close walk with him also allows us to enter into a sheltered place of promise.  Whatever your season or life situation, abiding in Christ and setting your affections upon Him will establsh that place of trust where one can find rest, protection and salvation.  Vs. 11 confidently states..."For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways."

Finding refuge in Him,
